Reykjavík Dance Festival
Reykjavík Dance Festival first appeared on the dance scene in Iceland in 2002, founded by independent choreographers in Iceland. These choreographers decided to share their energy and create the festival as a platform for new Icelandic dance works. The focus of the festival has been different from year to year but one of the main goals has always been to bring contemporary dance closer to the people. Therefore the festival takes on the role of bringing contemporary dance to a higher level of visibility within the society and introducing the independent dance choreographers currently working in Iceland.
Reykjavík Dance Festival is the only festival in Iceland with a specific focus on dance and choreography as a contemporary practice. Traditionally taking place in August, the festival draws upon the extended daylight hours – typically running from early morning to early morning – filling those hours with dancing, discussion, and the unexpected. Reykjavík Dance Festival is super now.
