Bright Days in Hafnarfjörður
The festival is held in Hafnafjordur. The venues are various museums, churches, concert halls and more.
Bright Days will be held on the eleventh time in 2014 and this year it includes also the First Day of summer. The First Day of Summer is an annual public holiday in Iceland held on the first Thursday after 18 April. In former times, the Icelanders used the old Norse calander which divided the year into only two seasons, winter and summer. Although the climate in late April cannot be considered to be summer-like, after the long winter, Icelanders still celebrate this first day of “summer” with parades, sporting events and organized entertainment, held in various places around Iceland. The First day of Summer and Bright Days in Hafnarfjörður is a festival of brighter and sunnier days. The festival has grown over the years and so has the attendance. The aim of the festival is to entertain people and support artists from the town as well as its culture.
