Shell Car Week
The Akureyri´s Car Club annual Shell Car Week will be held June 13th to 17th, 2014. The Car Week is Iceland’s ever growing and biggest car related gathering, with thousands joining to meet, watch and participate. Main events are drift racing, burn-out competition, mud bogging, drag racing and the traditional June 17th (Iceland‘s national day) car show in Boginn arena. Events like car audio competitions, auto-x, safe driving competitions, open drift/burnout facility and the Live2Cruize grill have also come to be something to look forward to each year.
The mud bogging is a new event this year, with every form of vehicle allowed. Expect smoke, fury, mud and laughter. The drag race is usually the biggest event, with both cars and motorcycles participating in a 1/8th mile race. Usually the following groups compete: Trucks, 4 cylinder cars, 6 cylinder cars, 8 cylinder cars, 8 cylinder modified cars, 4×4 sports cars, motorcycles under 900cc, motorcycles over 900cc and motocross bikes.
The Car Week is held at BA’s race track, with enough space for all the events and great camping. The camping will be open during the whole event, opening on June 12th. Day and night security is provided. Visitors under the age of 18 have to be accompanied by parents.
The race track is above town, just 5 minutes from the center by car. The fantastic Akureyri swimming pools and spa is 20 minute’s walk away. The track is located in the great Glerardalur outdoors area, with lot of hiking opportunities.
