Blacksmith Festival
The Technical Museum of East Iceland has its annual free Blacksmith Festival during the week leading up to the last Monday in July. This year it will happen 25th to 27th July. The museum is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. To commemorate this, guests will be treated to an unusually vast flora of exhibitions and events The festival is a meeting place for professionals as well as the general public where people of all ages and all walks of life have a good time in historical settings. Live music, dancing and dining are part of the event as well as lively exhibitions and education. As usual we will offer a number of courses, conducted by competent instructors, including elementary blacksmithing, knife-making, whittling, printing, book-making, vintage carpentry, metalcasting and advanced blacksmith work. Exhibitions, events, live concerts and the Saturday evening dance on the pier are all free for everybody and all age groups, while courses and dining are moderately priced. Guests will be invited to visit the Radio truck with the most modern communication systems available as well as Iceland’s first telegraph station and wireless radio. An FM radio station, featuring original material and live music will be operated during the festival. Numerous internationally reknown artists and musicians will entertain.
